Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Studentify, a study support and academic productivity platform operated by Studentify (Pty) Ltd in the Republic of South Africa.

By creating an account, subscribing, or using Studentify, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you should not use the platform. These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What Studentify provides

Studentify helps students organise modules, assignments, research, flashcards, schedules, study sessions, and academic progress. The Uploads feature lets you centralise academic files in one secure location. Some features use AI to summarise, analyse, structure, or generate study support based on user-provided content. Research tools help you discover academic sources, and an optional text-to-speech player — provided by your own browser — allows you to listen to study materials.

Studentify also maintains a shared repository of module structures. When you add a module you may choose to contribute its structure anonymously so other students can reuse it. Only academic structural information is shared — module code, assessment names, weights, and dates. Your marks, files, notes, and identity are not shared, and you may opt out when creating or editing a module.

Accounts and responsibility

You are responsible for your account, the accuracy of information you provide, and all activity that occurs under your login. You must keep your credentials secure and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access.

You may not share, sell, transfer, or misuse your account. We may suspend access where we reasonably believe an account is being used fraudulently, unlawfully, or in a way that harms Studentify or other users.

Plans, payments, and credits

Studentify offers a free plan, Studentify Free, and one paid plan, Studentify Plus, which you can pay for in two ways. Payments are in South African Rand through PayFast. Current pricing is:

• Studentify Free: R0.
• Studentify Plus, semester: R399 for 6 months, paid once. It does not renew by itself.
• Studentify Plus, monthly: R79 per month through a PayFast subscription, until you cancel.

Both billing options give the same features, credits, and storage. Certain AI features use credits. Credits, plan limits, fair-use controls, and rollover rules differ between the free and paid plan. Coupons apply to the semester option only and can't be combined with the founding price. We may adjust pricing, plan features, or limits with reasonable notice where required by law or where the change materially affects paid users.

What each plan includes

Studentify Free includes the core study tools: modules, notes, class schedule, the AI Study Planner, analytics, the study timer, Research, and manually created flashcard decks. These carry generous usage ceilings intended to prevent abuse rather than to force an upgrade — currently 10 modules, 500 notes, and 30 flashcard decks, with a daily limit on Research searches. AI generation features — Study Chat, AI note generation, AI flashcard generation, and assignment analysis — require Studentify Plus. Assignment analysis is limited to 10 analyses per calendar month, of which up to 3 may be scanned documents.

The current, authoritative breakdown of what each plan includes is shown on the billing page in your account. Where these Terms and the billing page differ, the billing page reflects what is actually enforced.

Switching between semester and monthly billing

You can move from monthly to semester billing at any time. You pay for the semester straight away, it starts when the month you have already paid for ends, and your monthly PayFast subscription is cancelled once the semester is paid; your credits are not reset. You can move from semester to monthly billing once your semester has ended, so you never pay for the same days twice; the monthly subscription starts when you pay. If you were a founding member and move to monthly within 30 days of your founding semester ending, you keep the founding monthly price.

Founding member price

The first 250 students to subscribe to Studentify Plus pay the founding price, 25% less than the regular price: R299 per semester instead of R399, or R59 per month instead of R79. One set of 250 places covers both billing options, and each student can hold one place.

• The founding price stays for as long as your subscription stays active.
• On monthly billing it stays while your PayFast subscription keeps running.
• On semester billing it stays if you renew before your semester ends or within 30 days after it ends.
• Switching between semester and monthly billing without a break keeps the founding price.
• If you cancel, or let your plan lapse beyond those windows, and subscribe again later, you pay the regular price.
• Founding places are never released: a place that has been claimed stays counted, even after a cancellation.
• A founding price shown at checkout is held for 24 hours. A payment made within those 24 hours is honoured even if the last place is taken in the meantime.

Payment failure and grace period

If a subscription payment fails, we do not immediately remove your paid features. Instead we open a 48-hour grace period during which you keep full access to your plan. We do not automatically retry a failed payment; you may retry the payment yourself once per failure from the billing page. If payment is not successfully completed before the grace period ends, your account is downgraded to Studentify Free.

Cancellation

You may cancel a paid plan from the billing page or by contacting us. If you cancel intentionally, you keep your paid benefits until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which your account moves to Studentify Free. Refunds are handled in line with applicable South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act where it applies.

Cancelling monthly billing cancels your PayFast subscription straight away, so no further payment is taken. This can't be undone, but you can subscribe again once the month you paid for ends. A semester is paid once and does not renew by itself; we email you a reminder seven days before it ends.

After a downgrade to Studentify Free, we retain your academic content for 7 days before removing content that exceeds the free plan's limits, giving you time to export your work or resubscribe.

Storage allocation

Each plan includes a storage allocation, based on the number of files you may store, for uploaded academic files:

• Studentify Free: up to 10 files, up to 10 MB per file.
• Studentify Plus: up to 50 files, up to 25 MB per file, on either billing option.

Storage use is displayed in your account. Exceeding your allocation will prevent new uploads until you delete existing files or upgrade your plan. Deleted files are permanently removed within 24 hours and are no longer accessible in any feature.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Studentify to:

• Break any law, regulation, institutional rule, or third-party right.
• Submit work generated by Studentify as if it were entirely your own where this violates your institution policies.
• Upload material you do not have permission to use.
• Attempt to bypass credits, billing, authentication, rate limits, or security controls.
• Reverse engineer, scrape, overload, or disrupt the platform.
• Share harmful, abusive, deceptive, infringing, or unlawful content.
• Resell access to Studentify without written permission.
• Upload, store, or share copyrighted material (textbooks, papers, or media) that you do not have permission to store or process.
• Use the Uploads or Research features to store or distribute content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
• Exceed your plan's storage limit by deliberately uploading duplicates or unnecessary files.

We may limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that breach these rules or create operational, legal, security, or reputational risk.

Academic integrity

Studentify is intended to help you understand academic work, plan your studies, improve your drafts, create revision material, manage your workload, and discover relevant academic sources. You remain responsible for how you use any output from the platform.

When using the Uploads feature, you remain responsible for ensuring that files you store comply with institutional rules and do not infringe copyright or third-party rights. When using Research features, any sources you discover and cite must be appropriately referenced in your work according to your institution's guidelines.

You must follow your university, faculty, module, lecturer, and assessment rules. AI-generated content and research suggestions should be reviewed, edited, cited where appropriate, and used in a way that is consistent with your institution policies.

AI-generated content

AI features may produce errors, omissions, outdated information, or suggestions that do not fit your exact assessment. You should verify outputs against your brief, rubric, lecturer guidance, prescribed material, and trusted academic sources.

Studentify does not guarantee that AI outputs will be accurate, complete, original, suitable for submission, or accepted by your institution. AI outputs are provided for study support and productivity, not as professional academic, legal, financial, or career advice.

Research and text-to-speech

AI features may suggest research keywords or summarise sources. These outputs may be incomplete or unsuitable for your specific academic requirement. You should verify research suggestions against your module requirements and trust academic sources over AI-generated keywords. Research results come from third-party academic databases, and Studentify does not control or guarantee their coverage, accuracy, or availability. Text-to-speech is read aloud by your own browser and is provided as a convenience tool for accessibility and engagement, not as a substitute for reading source material carefully.

Content and intellectual property

Your content

You retain ownership of content you upload or create in Studentify, including assignment files, notes, flashcards, research material, and module information. You grant Studentify a limited right to host, process, transmit, and display that content only as needed to provide the platform to you.

Studentify content and platform

Studentify's software, interface, branding, workflows, prompts, design, and platform materials are owned by Studentify (Pty) Ltd or its licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, resell, or create derivative products from the platform without written permission.

Privacy and data

Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. By using Studentify, you acknowledge that academic content and account information may be processed by service providers such as Clerk, Supabase, the AI providers Studentify uses (Anthropic Claude and DeepSeek), the academic databases used by Research (Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, and CrossRef), Postmark, Google APIs, Vercel, and PayFast where needed to operate the platform features you use.

Studentify Inbox and connected email

Studentify Inbox is optional. If you forward academic emails to your Studentify address, Postmark processes the inbound message and Studentify may extract academic dates, tasks, and suggested actions for your review. You are responsible for forwarding only content you are allowed to process through Studentify.

Outlook / Microsoft 365 connection is not presented as broadly live and may be paused, limited, or coming soon. If it is available to you and you explicitly connect it, Studentify will request read-only access via Microsoft Graph API and you may disconnect it from Settings. Google Calendar sync is also optional and only applies when you connect it.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep Studentify reliable and useful, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Uploads feature, Research tools, text-to-speech, and other features described in these Terms may be improved, limited, removed, or replaced as the platform develops. If a material change affects a paid plan's features, we will notify you with reasonable notice as required by South African consumer protection laws.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change materially affects your rights or paid subscription, we will take reasonable steps to notify you.

Disclaimers and liability

Studentify is provided on an "as available" basis. To the extent allowed by South African law, we are not responsible for indirect loss, loss of data, loss of profits, loss of academic opportunity, or consequences arising from misuse of the platform or reliance on unverified AI output.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. Where liability can be limited, our total liability for claims relating to the platform is limited to the amount you paid to Studentify in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Termination and governing law

You may stop using Studentify at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, create legal or security risk, or use the platform in a way that harms Studentify or other users.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Applicable legislation may include POPIA, ECTA, and the Consumer Protection Act where relevant. South African courts will have jurisdiction unless applicable law requires otherwise.
